About me
I was born in Basel, Switzerland on September 8, 1968. This is were I still live and work. I love Basel and though I am quite aware that it isn't flawless I consider it as one of the places with the highest quality of living that I know of. My hobbies include my Macintosh, the exploration of the amazing possibilities of the Internet, reading, traveling, learning new things in general and domestic as well as global politics.

Me (small picture)

Regarding the latter I am a liberal economist (liberal in the European sense) and member of the liberal-democratic party of Basel-Stadt (LDP). I think that being an economist has more to do with your philosophy of life than your education.

Having the opportunity to bring my education in line with my philosophy of life, I graduated as an economist at the Basel University of Applied Sciences in July, 1999. From October 1999 until March 2003 I worked for Systor Inc., an IT solution providing company (First as web publisher and since 2002 as IT project manager). From May 2004 untiI November 2006 I have been working as Web Content Manager and Project Manager Intranet / Internet for Synthes Inc., a leading global producer of medical implants, instruments and biomaterials. From March 2007 until April 2009 I worked as web editor for economiesuisse, the umbrella organization representing the Swiss economy. If you are interested in that kind of stuff check out my CV page where you can download my most recent CV in German or English as a PDF-file.

There are two beautiful poems which sum up my philosophy of life pretty well: "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost and "Invictus" by William E. Henley.

I am not a friend of religion as I consider the institutionalisation of faith wrong. Nevertheless, I have a clear set of values that guides me through life. These are:

  • An utter respect for other being's physical and psychical integrity
  • Honesty with other people as well as with yourself
  • I consider life an invaluable gift. It is my duty to give it sense and direction.
  • I will stand up for the individual's right of self-determination within the boundaries of the legal framework.
  • Don't travel on the broadest, most convenient or most travelled path. Choose the right path even if this means you will travel alone or you have to create one from the scratch.
  • Stand up for what you believe in even if you don't comply with "political correctness" (oh my goodness ...) and the society that thinks it has the moral authority as well as the wisdom to enforce standards on you will penalize you by calling you "not normal". Not being normal can be a very satisfactory.
